Landscaping Ideas for Front Yards

Your front yard is the first thing people see when they approach your home. Therefore, it is important to make the best impression possible with good landscaping. A well landscaped front yard makes your home more beautiful and may even add value if you ever decide to sell. There are plenty of landscaping ideas for front yards you can use to make the exterior of your home more attractive and appealing. Many people spent a substantial amount of time on their front porch area. If you've got the space, it's a great place to enjoy the outdoors and put your feet up. A beautiful garden can enhance your enjoyment and relaxation.

Most people like to plant a rectangular shaped garden off the front of their homes. If you choose to go this route, you can go with a ground level garden or an elevated garden. Either way, you will need to decide how large you want your front yard garden to be and what kind of edging you want. Edging is very important because it provides a boundary for your flowers and makes both gardening and mowing the lawn a great deal easier. There are all kinds of decorative edging that you can choose from. Some people love the natural look of wood, while others prefer stone. Then there's plastic, which is hardy and inexpensive.

The front yard is a great place to welcome birds. If you have a front window where you can see the garden, consider putting in a bird feeder. Many people go for a hanging bird feeder suspended from a shepherd's hook, which is a pole with a hook on the end that is staked into the ground. Be sure to provide water for the birds as well, somewhere near the feeder. A decorative birdbath close to the garden is a great way to do this. If you want hummingbirds and butterflies, a red hummingbird feeder and plenty of red and pink trumpet shaped flowers can help bring them in.

Even if you don't have a lot of space in your front yard, you can still find plenty of great landscaping ideas for front yards that will work for you. Container gardening is an excellent way to make the most of a small space because your garden can be placed on your porch, removing the need for land. Vertical space should also be used to the fullest by installing lattice work and planting climbing vines and flowers to wind around it. When it comes to landscaping your front yard, use your creativity to create the ideal outdoor environment.
