Landscaping Ideas for Mailbox Areas

Every last area of your yard can be beautiful and inviting. This includes your mailbox. Try some creative landscaping ideas for mailbox areas to make this part of your yard as appealing as possible. If your mailbox is plain and boring, the first thing you should do is find a way to make it more attractive. Many people like a hand painted mailbox rather than a plain one. You can go for a pretty pattern like handpainted flowers or choose a solid color that coordinates with the rest of your yard. The mailbox post should also be painted to coordinate with whatever color or pattern you have chosen for the box itself. Just make sure the paint does not obscure any information on the mailbox.

Of course, the area around the mailbox needs some beautification as well. An easy way to do this is to plant flowers and ornamental grasses around the mailbox post. Just make sure the plants do not interfere with the mail carrier's ability to access the box. Therefore, they should be positioned close to the post and should not reach the mailbox in height. A nice assortment of daisies can make an appealing area of interest around any mailbox post. You will find daisies and other flowers in the daisy family in a variety of sizes and colors.

There are quite a few grasses, such as flame grass, that can also be planted around the mailbox area as well. Just make sure to keep the grasses trimmed properly as they can reach heights that may obscure your mail carrier's access to the box. Another idea to consider is to use some climbing vines around the post. Morning glory is a great idea because it grows fast, can be trained to climb around most anything and features colorful and beautiful blossoms. Like with the grasses, climbing vines must be trimmed regularly to ensure they don't get out of control.

If you need more landscaping ideas for mailbox areas, look at what some of your neighbors have done or search the Web. You can often find color photos online of what other avid gardeners have done with their mailbox areas. Or, join some gardening forums and ask questions there. You are sure to get some creative ideas for sprucing up the land around your mailbox. Every area of your yard is important, including the mailbox area. It's easy to make the most of this space with a little creativity and some pretty flowers and plants.
