Landscaping Ideas with Dog Run

Many people who have a beloved dog or dogs often need a good place for them to run. Dogs need exercise, and if you've got the space, you can integrate landscaping ideas with dog run areas for the most efficient use of the space. The absolute first thing you need to think about is the safety of your pet. Your dog run should be fenced in to avoid your dog from escaping. You might have a wonderfully trained dog, but even the best trained dogs sometimes wander off. My own dog has done so on a variety of occasions. All it takes is another dog to walk by or a squirrel to catch her attention and she's ready to run off. If our fence weren't so high, I'm sure she would have jumped over by now and run off in pursuit of adventure.

That's another thing to consider -- the height of the dog run fence. You must make sure the fence is high enough so that your dog cannot jump over. If you've got a dog prone to tunneling and digging, make sure to check for holes on a daily basis and check on your dog as often as you can when he or she is outdoors. When it comes to the landscape for your dog run, the best thing to have is flat, grassy land. The last thing you want is flowers that your dog can tear up. Not only that, but many plants and flowers are toxic to pets. If you do plant flowers, plants or shrubs make absolutely certain they are safe if your dog happens to eat them.

Trees make a nice addition to your dog run. You can even line your dog run area with trees to create visual interest and add shade. On hot summer days, your dog will need shade to relax in when they aren't running around. It is very important to provide fresh, cold water for your dog each and every day, especially when they are outdoors. If you are concerned about dog waste and urine creating brown patches in your grass, there are special treatments you can use on your lawn to keep it looking green and beautiful.

For more landscaping ideas with dog run areas, try doing a little online research. Often, you can network and socialize with other dog owners to find out what works for them. Dog boarding professionals are often a treasure trove of information regarding how to build an attractive and effective dog run area.
