Small Landscaping Ideas: Making the Most of Limited Space
Is your outdoor living area smaller than you'd like it to be? Never fear -- there are plenty of small landscaping ideas that you can use to make the absolute most of the space you've got. One of the most efficient ways to use your space is for container gardening. Containers can be easily moved and adjusted to suit your needs. They are perfect for anyone who wants to grow plants, flowers and even vegetables in their small yard. The key is to choose the right containers for the right purposes.
One of the biggest mistakes beginners make is choosing containers that are too small for the plants and flowers you've chosen. It is crucial to give the roots ample growing room. For example, a tomato plant should be planted in a ten gallon container for the best results. You may want to do some research and find out what your various plants, flowers and vegetables require. You should also find out about the sun and shade requirements of what you're planning on planting. Luckily, containers make it easy to move your plants from sun to shade and vice versa.
A small pond can be installed in a limited area and makes a great point of interest. You can grow moisture loving plants around the pond and float lily pads on top. Some people even add goldfish or koi to their ponds. You may also hear this type of aquatic setup called a water garden. Water gardens are beautiful, relaxing and can be built to suit your space. Most garden centers have all the supplies you'll need for a thriving water garden. If you have the space, place some seating close to the water garden so that you and your family can make the most of its natural beauty and serenity.
There are plenty more small landscaping ideas that can be used to improve your space. One easy tip is to use your vertical space to its fullest. One way is to install latticework next to your home. Climbing vines look great when wound around decorative wood or aluminum lattice. Morning glory, ivy and clematis are examples of plants that are perfect for this purpose.
